hell we put shit we DO need in piles. we put shit we think we need in piles?? really we just like piles. the entire concept of a silo is just a pile with reinforced sides so we can make it higher. a quarry is just a reverse-pile so we can create piles out of the stuff we take out. a warehouse is just a pile with labels and shelves. factories take piles and turn them into more piles. a conveyor belt is a horizontal pile
My cuban coworker just hit me with the āmy phone is slow can you clean it for meā move but in spanish and Iām like ādamn this shit really does transcend every barrierā
protip everyone: if you ever heard anyone talk about electronic voting, whether positively or negatively (but primarily negatively) and they never once mention brazil, their argument is hot garbage and should be thrown straight into the trash.
this post was brought to you by: brazil has been doing country-wide electronic voting for longer than Iāve been alive and the fact that foreigners (primarily americans) think itās some kind of novel untested idea makes me want to scream.

so I got a new router for wireless PCVR use (the old one was a huawei with stupid firmware that captive portals everything to its admin page if it detects no connection ._.)
ā¦and now that Iām not limited by the stupid fw, I could test out PCVR on linux with Envision (using wivrn) and wlx-overlay-s
I am happy to report that Shit Works
(arch linux, awesomewm on x11, tested with h3vr on GE-Proton9-5)
The ongoing death of Twitter, many peopleās (entirely reasonable!) unwillingness to use the Fediverse, and Blueskyās (much less excusable!) lack of locked accounts sure make venting online about things of a personal or private nature a bit difficult, lmao.
⦠ā¦hopefully, our efforts here will, in the medium term, result in something thatās at least as good for that use case as Cohost was. Iām really hoping we can turn this into something thatās, like, at least āthousands of peopleā kind of serious, but in a way thatās sustainable.
We are supposed to be a democracy, but our mass media has been almost criminal in neglecting the real controversies of our time, preferring instead a mundane sort of pap which ultimately is more dangerous than any opinion because it only serves to stifle thought. In the atomic age, the last thing we can afford is a powerful, thoughtless, and sheeplike ādemocracy.ā- Phil Ochs, 1967
thanks to a helpful fediverse post that shared a blogpost teaching how to run godot games natively on mac I might decide to buy Webfishing. what a relief. it's been upsetting me as a proud fishing fanatic to be UNABLE to play a good fishing game. now I can correct this grievous error.
I think at some point, my anxiety value overflowed and got set back to 0 as a result.
I know whatās happened is horrible. I know this is about⦠as worst case scenario as we could get. But⦠I wonāt give up. I donāt think anyone should. We have each other.
I think we just need to do what we can to survive, stick together, and get through this. There may be bad people out there, but there are a lot of good ones, too. We just have to endure the shit.

Basically reposting from my website (https://tanzi-media.com/Posts/Trump_Elected_2024) but thoughts on election results
I'm not sure what there is to say other than fuck man. Not only does it seem like Trump is elected, but from what I'm seeing ( https://apnews.com/projects/election-results-2024/) the House and Senate are also going to be Republican controlled. This of course means to me they're going to be able to pass a lot of stuff like they did last time. And it's honestly terrifying with things like Project 2025 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_2025) out there. Reproductive rights are also something that worries me a lot, given I'd like to have kids one day and don't want to lose my spouse because a standard medical procedure is now illegal. While we're currently pretty safe in VT, it's just... terrifying. Of course there's also the Israel / Palestine conflict right now, and I don't want the US making it worse.
I don't know. It's hard to remain hopeful. It's hard to not feel like things are just on the fast track to making the US a hellscape to live in. It's hard to not feel like we're just watching the decline of the country. And it's hard seeing that not only does this appear to be an Electoral College victory, but a popular vote victory too. So much of the country is fine with the guy who got in trouble for mishandling classified info, the guy who has had multiple rape allegations, to be leading the country.
I wish I had encouraging words. The only thing I'm telling myself is we survived his first presidency, and the things that I remember as truly terrible from it was COVID/ the COVID response, overturning of Roe v Wade, and I felt like he was an embarrassment to us on the world stage. But...I also feel like there was a lot of other stuff that was about solidifying Republican power. January 6th of course was also horrible. And what's going to happen this time around? When it's time for Trump to leave? Not to mention how many more Supreme Court justices will he be able to appoint? I also want to say there were other policy changes that happened during the Trump presidency that negatively impacted a lot of people, that I'm simply not remembering right now (I want to say things like Trans healthcare, and social services for the poor).
What makes it even harder for me is the fact that the Democratic party doesn't even seem like a great option for opposition. Like... the only memorable parts of the Biden presidency, for me, is he passed that bill for Infrastructure, broke up a Rail Strike and like... that's it? I know a handful of individual states passed bills and laws either protecting Abortion rights or restricting them further, but I don't know much else that happened on the Federal level. And so it just feels like one party is actively making the US worse, and then when the other comes to power they're just passive.
And so how do you feel hopeful about that? I also may be just very misinformed - since leaving the media field I've not kept up with news nearly as much as I used to. I just don't have it in me. So maybe Biden/ the Democrats have truly done a lot that I don't know about that has actually been moving the country away from Conservatism. Or maybe Trump was a lot worse/ better than I was remembering. But, right now, for me things just sort of feel awful. And I don't know any solution, other than becoming apathetic given it feels like there's almost nothing to be done here other than an overhaul of the entire system. Just keep voting I guess.
Heads up for anyone who enjoyed CathodeRayDudeās chosting, he now has a blog thatās pretty in line with his cohost stuff: https://blog.cathoderaydude.com/
