🐅 i have a strong preference for cyberpunk that doesn’t use the orientalist neon urban density aesthetic, number one because that shit rules and is more apt for like a future fantasy, and number two because there’s so much more you could say about gentrification. like where’s the suburban #cyberpunk

@zlchxo i feel like the music videos for My Chemical Romance’s Danger Days album probably counts to some extent. it’s even got all the requisite anamorphic flares.

@zlchxo Snow Crash was already mentioned in the comments, but the more I think about it the more I realize it perfectly hits this. The majority of what happens outside of VR and the Raft is in self-storage units, skate parks, strip malls, or trailer parks.

@zlchxo I was always fascinated by "low cyberpunk" where it's often set in the recent past, focused on stuff like phreakers and early hackers exploiting systems far too rudimentary for the kind of power they direct built by people who didn't yet see the big picture.
