yknow what, I’m also gonna ask here in case someone knows: anyone got any idea if cohost has an api method to get a tag timeline? I’m back on my archival bs and while I will pull in cheerio and parse the SSR pages if needed, I’d prefer to not do that
reading about animal (and general non-human) personhood
this seems like sort of an unbridgeable problem with law eventually because, strictly speaking, it is accurate to say many animals have a capacity equal to how we define personhood--but:
1 which is what would make personhood meaningful; recognizing personhood without the resultant rights of personhood is obviously nonsensical, and we adjudicate those through law
Today's #TinyGlade daily theme is "Temple of the Moon". Here's my attempt!
going to work on my "interesting links" page today and a big component of this will be studies i find interesting―here's one example: automated speed cameras are pretty close to equitable in outcome and there's really no good argument against them as a traffic enforcement mechanism, especially versus the alternative (human enforcement)
https://theconversation.com/police-stop-more-black-drivers-while-speed-cameras-issue-unbiased-tickets-new-study-from-chicago-238170
https://doi.org/10.1073/pnas.2402547121
Our findings show that when speed cameras are doing the ticketing, the proportion of tickets issued to Black and white drivers aligns closely with their respective share of roadway users. With human enforcement, in contrast, police officers stop Black drivers at a rate that far outstrips their presence on the road.
For instance, on roads where half of drivers are Black, Black drivers receive approximately 54% of automated camera citations. However, they make up about 70% of police stops.
On roadways where half of the drivers are white, white drivers account for around half of automated citations – and less than 20% of police stops.
BTW does your site have RSS and/or Atom feeds and no good way to advertise as such?
I pixelled some basic little buttons (in 1x and 2x density) like how I remember them being back in the day for drac.at, feel free to pilfer them.
I'll probably make a page and publish them as CC0 (and with source SVGs) later but consider this explicit permission.
I have written my opinions on content warnings as a twenty page essay https://shelraphen.com/on-content-warnings/
